We are thrilled to announce the seven dogs that have graduated from our Full-Service programs during November. This was a very diverse group of dogs with a diverse range of issues, and we are excited to follow their progress now that they are back at home with their owners.
Kai: Golden Retriever from St. Augustine, Florida, Option 2 Graduate
Kai came to The Doghouse as an out-of-control young Golden. He jumped all over his owner, pulled on the leash, and refused to come when called. All of these problem behaviors were at odds with his owner’s goals to have a well-mannered dog in the city and be able to control him when out in the country at her parent’s house. Kai completed our Distraction Training program and is now out in the world as a well-mannered dog.
Chief: Golden Retriever from Lithia, FL, Option 2 Graduate
Chief is a typical Golden Retriever: exuberant, happy, and always on the go. His over-exuberance got him into trouble at his last daycare when he was mouthing people. While in our obedience training program, this handsome boy learned more than just how to heel and stay. He learned how to appropriately express himself, how to be well mannered out in public, and what types of behaviors were never acceptable for him to display.
Scarlett: German Shepherd from Tampa, FL, Option 2 Graduate
Scarlett is an awesome young German Shepherd who just went home from her training program. Her owners love the strong protective instinct that she has but need to manage it in all types of situations. Dogs with stronger temperaments need good obedience and handling to ensure that they mesh well with a family and be solid out in public.
Bella: German Shepherd from Gainesville, FL, Option 2 Graduate
Bella is another young GSD who came to us because she was a bit too wild. She acted aggressively to small dogs outside of her family, pulled on the leash, jumped all over guests, and had separation anxiety. All of these issues stemmed from a lack of maturity, a lack of “jobs”, and a lack of rules. Bella has a much more structured life and can fit in much better with her owner’s life.
Penny Sue: Yorkshire Terrier mix from Sun City Center, FL, Option 2 Graduate
If you were trying to fit the most personality in the smallest package, you would get Penny Sue. Like most Yorkies, this spunky little pup is very energetic and always up for an adventure. She had a bad habit of bolting out the door and was impulsive in most areas of her life. Now she has learned how to have some self-control and go from speeding away from her owner to speeding back to her on recalls.
Lobo: Bernerdoodle from St. Petersburg, FL, Option 2 Graduate
Former wild child Lobo is a graduate of who we are very proud of. His large size was quite an issue when he jumped all over people and dragged his owners down the street. He thought playing “keep away” was quite fun and wasn’t too keen on listening to commands. Now Lobo no longer pulls on the leash, he knows not to jump on people, and he is able follow a variety of obedience commands.
Nola: Belgian Malinois from Tampa, FL, Option 2 Graduate
A breed very near and dear to all of us at The Doghouse is the Belgian Malinois. These dogs are very driven, high-energy, and very intelligent. All of these traits got Nola into trouble in the first year of her life. She had separation anxiety, enjoyed herding people, and was reactive to dogs when on walks. By channeling her drives into obedience, we could break Nola of these habits and put her on the path of being a well-mannered dog for her owners.
